Name says it all. I don't really use the gauges, and although the pics are pretty, I like to have a good use for the space itself. I don't want to just move the minimap frame over it cause I like my main functions (mount/Misc./HS) on the bigger button.
I'd imagine it wouldn't be much harder to do than the animated player pic.

Well ... I will investigate this matter eventually. I need to determine the best way of doing this. My idea would involve moving the minimap image to the sphere texture area. and shrinking its size (if possible) to fit in the area. Otherwise, I'll keep the size normal and push the buttons out from the center a little more so that the buttons don't "enter" the map, so to say. Doing this, you will be able to click the minimap to cast stuff as normal, but you won't be able to click on it to throw a ping, nor will you be able to mouse over any icons that appear on it to see what the tooltip says. This is because the tooltip will stay everything that's on the LS tooltip.
... I might be able to add the data from the minimap tooltip to the LS tooltip as well. We'll see... but one step at a time ...

can it just be an overlay? maybe similar to eepanels, where a panel is 'hooked' into other frames
maybe in that case, a mini-map button will appear to retain functions of the original sphere...
side question, and may relate to this...is it possible to scale the center sphere apart from the buttons? i know there's already a function to change the sizes of the buttons, but when i scale the sphere up, so did the buttons...is there a way to keep button sizes as they were set, whether i want to scale up the center sphere or not?
side-side note...is it possible to only hide the sphere and not the buttons?

can it just be an overlay? maybe similar to eepanels, where a panel is 'hooked' into other frames maybe in that case, a mini-map button will appear to retain functions of the original sphere... So, create a minimap button that circles around it, similar to how other addons have a minimap button? Then, clicking the button functions the same way as clicking the main sphere? Not yet. I haven't added code that will scale just the sphere. I took the easy road which is to scale the parent frame (the sphere) and the children frames (all the buttons) will scale with it. I will probably add a feature in the sphere tab that will, when enabled, JUST scale the sphere and the children will stay scaled in relation to the UI. Not yet. At least, not completely. One can make a macro to do this for the time being, but you need to remember that while the sphere might be hidden, you can still click it and use it's functions: Toggle Sphere (keep edit/combat glow)/script f=getglobal("LSsphere"); a=math.abs(f:GetAlpha()-1);f:SetAlpha(a); getglobal("LSbackground"):SetAlpha(a); getglobal("LSsphereBorder"):SetAlpha(a); Toggle Sphere (include edit/combat glow)/script f=getglobal("LSsphere"); a=math.abs(f:GetAlpha()-1);f:SetAlpha(a); getglobal("LSbackground"):SetAlpha(a); getglobal("LSsphereBorder"):SetAlpha(a); getglobal("LScombatGlow"):SetAlpha(a); Pick one or the other. Some people might perfer to have the combat and edit glow gone while the sphere is hidden, but that will just make it a little harder to tell if the sphere is in edit mode. Of course, you could keep a button empty so that when it is in edit mode, you'll see the empty, transparent button as a reminder. Up to you, really. Maybe I'll include this with the next version in the debug tab. In theory, this could make your minimap into the sphere if you wanted...

Yes, you can resize the Minimap scale. I already use DFM to do this. Edit: I'd think it'd be the same process as you'd use for the animated pic for the texture. Just have the map there, deactivate L-Clicking (to preserve pinging) and keep the CTRL-RCLICK for opening the menu.

If it's doable, creating a little minimap to perform the function of the sphere and hook to the minimap frame would be cool. Even for those who use minimap button bags should be able to put that button in the bag (i think).
Or, like what Chaosinc suggested, resolve the 2 and disable L-click (or all clicks except with modifiers. I've seen mods such as "simpleminimap" that allow R-click on minimap to bring up menus.)
As for the macro fix to hide the center sphere: Moon's awesomeness is why the night elves praise the Elune goddess (what what and a what? I don't know...just making conversation)

I didn't mention, but the macro is a toggle. So click it once to hide the sphere, click it again to show it. Kinda cool
