Not sure if this has been suggested, but I'm in a bit of a hurry so I don't have time to check.
As I'm leveling a new toon (switched servers), I finding it to be a pain to constantly have to open up LS and check the edit box to add a new spell to my buttons. Wondering if it would be possible to add a "quick edit" key so people don't have to go through that much hassle to update their buttons.
Something along the lines of holding CTRL that would show/edit the buttons so you can add a new one on the fly. Even maybe CTRL+Mouseover the main LS sphere.

Would it be an idea to include another option ("edit buttons") to the coming dropdown menu? Or still too unflexible? - Not done Sphere: Holding ALT and clicking the sphere will present a small dropdown list that will have the options: "Settings Window," "Lock/Unlock Sphere," "Lock/Unlock buttons," and "Show/Hide Empty Buttons"
Or would it be possible to implement the functionality Blizzard included: Dragging a Spell/Macro/Item to a button works always, but you can only pull it off a button if the checkbox "lock buttons" isn't checked?

I can add a keybind somewhere to toggle the edit mode on and off. The dropdown menu will have "Edit Mode" on it, I just forgot to rename "Lock Buttons" to "Edit Mode" the part you quoted =)Personally, the keybind mode would work easier and better with what LS has to do. Maybe holding CTRL would work as well (or holding CTRL and SHIFT or something like that). I have the edit mode specifically to prevent players from editing the sphere on accident, to allow the Button Settings window to appear, and get those empty buttons to appear. I used to have it so whenever you picked up a spell, all the buttons would show ... but that got REAL old and ugly fast when anytime you went to put something on the AH ... ALL your buttons appeared. Drove people nuts. So, Edit Mode came to be. Maybe keybinds would be good?

I think it would, yes. I'd prefer to set a keybind inside the LS settings window. Would it be possible to set a keybind using more than one key? Cause I have some keybindings already using SHIFT+key, CTRL+key, ALT+key, but I have none using SHIFT+CTRL+key, so I'd use SHIFT+CTRL (or another weird two-button-combination) if possible. [edit] due to inconsistency ...

Yeah, I can do that.
