Oh, I'll grab all the code that I see that is duplicated tonight and present it for proof. There's a good amount of code in the sphere section.

That's not good, however it's good that I noticed you on the forum, thus leading me here, now I can finally use an sphere addon that rocks You're going on my delicious (del.icio.us for remembering sites, like an online bookmarks folder) account. I'm sorry to hear about someone copying your code, remembering how I felt when someone released a mod that did the exact thing as mine only he was faster than me I know it's frustrating, however this is my problem in huge scale + some insult to your work + alot of insult to you as an developer and can't even begin to imagine how extremely annoying and frustrating this must be for you. Your addon looks really good and I can't wait to dig my teeth in it.

Give em heck Moon! I'm surprised that they are backing this guy. The last post by Benumbed is pretty much an admission of guilt, thought not couched in those terms

I personally am quite disappointed in the reaction we have gotten from the Admins at WoWACe. It is more than apparent that Benumbed stole the Stage 2 code, renamed things, and made what changes needed to be made for Ace2 compatibility. The Admins at WoWAce are being very glib about the whole thing Give em heck Moon! I'm surprised that they are backing this guy. The last post by Benumbed is pretty much an admission of guilt, thought not couched in those terms /agreed briandre Ele

wowo.. plagerism in one of it's highest forms... if only u were selling this to us you could take legal action ... I hope this fiasco doesn't effect your view of the project moon as it is simply a brillaint vision that should only be realised by a programmer of your quality. GL dealing with the problem ...and don't let it stay up if you can get it taken down because it will only reflect badly on you with all the code he has broken and it's limited capabilities

After reading the Ace boards I don't think we are getting anywhere. I guess what needs to be done now if for Moongaze just continue coding this super amazing addon and spank Sphere out of the park. Be sure to add that one line of ace code so that it will be posted on the wowace website. This will not only heat up the cpmpetition but also expand your user base to those who only use ace addons.

That's the plan. I tried reason, I tried compromise, but in the end, I just need to open up a Walmart next to his mom and pop store. I've never really dealt with the Ace community, and this kinda made me not really want to become a part of it. I have BOTH addons running SIDE BY SIDE and I can tell just by looking at it that it's the same, but they want code examples and I really am over it. By the time LunarSphere is finished, the code will look different than what he originally used. Since he'll be using old code, there will be no comparison I could make. However, if he adds anything else of mine, I'll probably notice it and call 'em on it. Oh well, no big loss. I'll only respect him if he codes his sphere with his own stuff, and does his own art. Haha, and if he adds my button art, I'll be able to call him on that too. Anyway, this whole thing blew up a little more than I liked and I'm pretty much done with the Ace Sphere forum. The admins tried to help, and I thank them for that, but in the end, I'm just going to keep coding LunarSphere, adding all the planned features, and if people really want to use Sphere, that's their choice. I really don't want to come off as elitist. I just want to have fun on my message board, play along with everyone, and make everyone happy. I also need to take a step back once in a while when I get pissed and really think about things before taking action. It's not often I get fired up, and I think I've gotten ticked off more while making this addon (from my previous rants people might have seen ... something like 3) than I've been in a few years. All within a few months. It's nuts. Well, back to my vacation.

I think sometimes we forget that you are on vacation and you are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying yourself and not be worried about work, this addon or whatever your "daily routine" is, after all, that is what vacations are for!

You know what Moon ? just add your line of code and put LunarSphere on Ace community website (even if it's a bunch of absolute and complete morons that like to think of themselves as mod geniuses), so LunarSphere will be around Sphere, and as far as I read their topic, the poor guy will not be able to compete at all. Else you will see people thinking its the same addon, due to name similarity. So just kill it while its an egg by putting Lunar on their boards

Well, the forums are still fun for me, which is why I'm always checking them. Like I said, I don't code much during this relaxing time, but there are those days where I'm bored and not doing anything with the family so I just open up my text editor and code away.
... it's just a pain to TEST the code, since the internet is hard to come by where I'm at.

I see the similarities too! And I think your addon, just as you say on your site looks like it's the origin of Sphere, I myself loaded them up yesterday side by side to see they're exactly the same, only yours has a GUI which is kickass and awesome. I hope that you're not disencouraged by his actions and hope that you'll win the race of the better addon.

Hey all, this is ckknight, an administrator at wowace.
Frankly, I see this as a bunch of misunderstandings leading up to a bad situation. It is my belief that Benumbed did not have a strong grasp of the consequences of copyright, and that is why he borrowed code from you. I have personally helped him over the past day or so to remove any traces of your code from his, which we are finally successful in doing. There is no longer any of LunarSphere's code in Sphere (as far as I can tell). I have explained to him the consequences in copyright, the differences in license terms, and overall, I believe he is more educated because of it.
We at the wowace community still support him because he admitted his wrongs and alleviated the situation. Had he said "Yes, I copied, and don't expect me to change anything", we would've thrown him to the wind. Instead, He did not realize he was wrong at first, then the situation was explained properly, he realized his misgivings, and fixed the situation. Therefore, we still see him as a noble member of the community.
In conclusion, there is no code that I know of shared between the projects. You cannot claim monopolization on the idea of your mod, as that goes against most traditional intellection property rights beliefs, and would fall under the line of software patents, which vary from country to country and are not covered by the Berne convention, as well as being economically infeasible in the contexts we work in. The arguments you thusly use do not have much standing as far as I can tell.
P.S. You don't need to "Ace" your mod in order to become part of the wowace community or use the wowace SVN.

ckknight - thank you very much for taking the time to post and explain to our community what happened and how the unfortunate situation occurred. You have acted in a way that I was hoping that the WoWAce community would: honorably. I have had communication with Moongaze as well and he is very pleased with the results and considers the matter closed. We wish you, Benumbed, and the rest of the moding community well in future coding projects that help all of us enjoy a wonderful WoW experience! Ele

Yeah, the issue is resolved, and as I have messaged a few people and talked about in some areas, the code in Benumbed's new version is essentially all theirs. This issue did blow up in a direction it really shouldn't have, and I'm quite happy that everything has been sorted. Thanks again for your help in the matter. (And with that said, this thread shall be locked and buried)
