Just an FYI, I'll be spending most of my waking hours this weekend at Fanime, which is an anime convention for those who don't know. The event happens every year in San Jose and, now that I live here, I have to go. Especially since it's two blocks away.
I'm a huge anime fan (no, I don't just watch Naruto, although I do like the show), so I usually geek-out at when I go to an anime convention. I passed the last two years due to my living in Hawaii, so this year I have to make up for it. It's kinda sad though, because I used to go to these conventions to see "new" stuff. Now, since I stay current with a lot of anime as it hits the TV in Japan, I'm always fully (or mostly) in the loop when it comes to anime, so the thrill of seeing new stuff is gone. Instead, I get to experience the semi-new stuff with tons of fans, and that can get crazy. Especially while watching a comedy, great stuff.
Yes, I do cosplay ... I'll be cosplaying as [hidden the name] from the anime [hidden the show, lol]. Quite possibly the best anime villian I've seen in a long time, next to the [also hidden, haha], who is just so damn awesome as well. My very first cosplay is still hard to top, since apparently I pulled it off so well that the character's creator had to have my picture.
Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the character designer for Neon Genesis Evangelion, came to Fanime five or six years ago. I was dressed up as one of his characters for the day he was there and saw 3-4 other people dressed up the same as I, but didn't quite pull it off as well as I did. My friends and I went to the IHOP down the street to get some pancakes that night and low and behold, Sadamoto was there with about eight other people (a translater and other people in the business). He saw me, flagged down the translater and we talked a bit. Then, he wanted my picture so he could "Post it at his work desk so that he would have a great reference for his character" ... so, like a total geek, I said yes and we got some pictures for him. Then, he signed a glove I was wearing and that was that.
... I'm sure he has a ton of pictures at his desk, and not just mine. But I can still dream, lol.
So yeah, I'll be back later.
