Okay, so the idea being Rogue 3D is to make a 3D version of Rogue (amazing concept, I know). I've been playing around with some of the old Rogue games, and checking out the source code for the dungeon generation. I would really like to keep the dungeon creation the same, and then morph it into the 3D grid I have. I dunno, it's something that I'll have to mess with.
I plan to probably have a small inventory screen to the right of the game screen, or as a popup window like WOW's inventory screen. I'll also have a bag that contains the items, showing a graphical representation of the items in Rogue. Since the player can only hold .. I think 26 items, We'll have a 26 slot bag. However, 2 of those items (armor and weapon) are also worn, so I might have a little "E" for equiped appear on the icon as well. I'll steal icons from WOW, so that I don't have to re-create them. It will also save on the size of the game when people download it =)
Ideas of multiplayer exploration have popped in my mind, but I won't tackle that until I have a good networking module made for my games to use, and a good way to implement the link between the two players in the game world. I'm sure there will be some bad lag, but I might be able to overcome some of it.
Then, there's the issue of generating the map and sending it to the other player. I dabbled with random seed generation, and using the same seed to generate the same dungeon ... but I'll need to test it on a few computers first, to see if it is the same for different types of computers. If not, I'll have to dump all the map data to the other user, and that may take ... 20 seconds? Who knows. I might need to think of a good way to compress the data into a series of strings.
