Localization time everyone!
A while ago (almost a year ago for some!) people offered to help with localizing LunarSphere. I said that this was great! ... but it would be a while before LunarSphere was finished to the point where it would be a good idea to start translating it.
... that time is upon us. Version 812 of LunarSphere is the last feature update for LunarSphere. It's finished. It took a long 20 months, but it's done. Granted, there are a lot of things that never made the cut, but those features will come later, after the public release. Now, back to the main point.
Within the Lib folder of LunarSphere, there is a file called "moduleLocale.lua" which houses all the text that is used within LunarSphere. I already separated each locale, so if anyone wants to translate a section, they just need to find their section that starts with:
elseif (locale == "frFR") then
Where the underlined part is your locale ID. At the top of the file you will find a listing of the various locales, in the event that you don't know which is yours.
The two chinese locales are already being taken care of, and you can already see the progress (almost all of it, except for the new stuff I added to version 812) that was made for those two. With version 810 or 811, I introduced the French locale provided by Google's translation, but I don't think it's perfect. In fact, it's probably really bad. So, I opted to remove it and let French client users mess with it, since they can probably do it better =)
Please. please, PLEASE try to translate things so they are around the same size, text wise. What I mean is this:
Notice that the French version is much longer. With this French translation, the setting inside LunarSphere will be long, and will probably run on into other settings captions, looking strange. I understand that some languages will take an English saying and make it really long in the other language. So, if there is a way to get the same point across is the same amount of letters, or maybe one or two more letters, that should be fine. If it turns out to be 3-10 more letters long, there will be formatting issues and, well ... I don't know what to do about that It's the bad part about localizing something, especially in a fixed size area. If it looks okay overflowing it's border a little bit, it's a judgment call that you get to make. This only affects the stuff you see in the settings screens. The help commands and speeches, for example ... it doesn't really matter. =)
If the phrase can be made SMALLER than the English phrase (often the case with Chinese and Korean), awesome! That's totally fine. It's the long stuff we're worried about.
As usual, once you made the changes to the file, you can just save the file and reload your UI in WOW with:
/script ReloadUI()
No need to turn WOW off and on. Just reloading is fine.

Sorry ahead of time for my requirements for this localization stuff. It's a little annoying and probably impossible in some situations and, like I said, judgment calls will need to be made. So, thanks again for any help anyone can provide!
